St John’s is a friendly and welcoming church, active in our local community, working alongside other agencies and running our own projects in order to express the love of God in practical ways. We are located on a housing estate that has experienced a lot of deprivation, so dealing with the associated challenges has shaped our ministry as a church. We have a thriving Youth Group of ages 11-18, and we are looking for additional opportunities to work with the Youth and Children in this parish.

The Youth & Children’s Workers will assist the Ministry Team in developing the work of the church amongst children and young people.

A committed team will support you, and the expected tasks below will be dependent on agreed working hours:

  • Provide opportunities for children & young people to explore the Christian faith, encounter God and follow Christ together. Of primary importance is the continued running of the Youth Group currently taking place on Wednesday evenings from 7 pm-9 pm.
  • Assist with planning and leading of monthly all-age services. Some further Sunday commitment would be desirable in order to feel part of the wider church family.
  • Opportunity to continue an after-school homework group once per week and a Young Adults study group once per week.
  • Enable greater participation by young people and children, integrating them where possible into the wider life of the church as equal partners.
  • Offer pastoral care to children/young people.
  • Work with a wide range of volunteers from across the Parish.
