Extended Study Leave

The Diocese of St Albans has clergy wellbeing as a high priority. Time away from parish duties to focus on rest, retreat and study forms a significant part of flourishing in ministry. For many this is a weekly challenge to keep the Sabbath, but every ten years we offer substantial time ‘away’ in the form of Extended Study Leave.

Licensed clergy are able to take an Extended Study Leave every ten years provided that:

they have been ordained for more than ten years
they have been in their present post for at least three years
they are not within five years of retirement
and they have the pastoral agreement of their area Bishop and Archdeacon.

When you meet the criteria you will receive an email from the Mission and Ministry department inviting you to begin your planning and to arrange a meeting with the Deputy Director of Mission and Ministry.
