Statement of Arrangements

A Statement of Arrangements is the document agreed upon between a Reader and their incumbent, setting out the expected pattern of ministry that the Reader will offer. These are required to be updated every 3 years prior to DBS renewal; and additionally, in the event of the arrival of a new incumbent, 6 months after the incumbent’s arrival to allow for time for the Reader and incumbent to get to know each other.

Central Readers’ Council

The Central Readers’ Council (“CRC”) supports lay ministers and their ministry in the Church of England and Church in Wales. All Readers are automatic members. The CRC’s website contains lots of resources, articles and training opportunities.

Readers’ Association

All Readers in the diocese are members of the Readers’ Association. The Association provides fellowship and support for Readers in the diocese, primarily through the annual Diocesan Readers’ Spirituality Day and AGM held in March each year.

Readers’ Expenses

Readers can claim for work done in their role as a Reader in the parish(es). You can download an expenses claim form.

Grants for Readers and Readers in Training

Grants are available to Readers and Readers in Training from two funds managed by the Diocesan Readers Association. For more details visit our Grants and support for development page.

Transfer of Reader licenses

For information about transferring Reader licences from another diocese or between parishes within St Albans Diocese, please contact the Secretary, Mr Richard Osborn, or the Bishop of Hertford’s PA.
