The Diocese of St Albans is preparing to celebrate a remarkable milestone as the 80th Easter Monday Pilgrimage takes place on 6 April 2026. This tradition is set to bring together pilgrims of all ages for an afternoon of worship, community, and joyful gathering at St Albans Cathedral.
The event, themed around Hope, is expected to draw hundreds of people from across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Luton, and beyond.
A celebration for the whole diocese
Families, church groups, young people, and even four‑legged companions are invited to gather in the Abbey Orchard before moving into the Cathedral for an informal service beginning at 3pm. The pilgrimage is designed to be accessible and joyful, encouraging communities to journey together.
Many will begin their day at local churches or designated hub churches, travelling as a group and carrying banners, prayers, and symbols of their communities.
Contributors
This year the Easter Monday band will be joined by Russell Blackman, an award‑winning Barbadian-born singer, songwriter, and worship leader known for his work mentoring young musicians. His vibrant musical leadership is expected to bring energy and warmth to the gathering.
This year’s talk will be given by Leah Bucko, a writer, speaker, and youth pastor at Soul Survivor Watford. With over a decade of experience supporting young people in church and community settings, Bucko brings a distinctive blend of honesty, pastoral insight, and hope. She is the author of Living In-Between Grief and Hope and is currently working on her second book.
The service will conclude with a short communion led by Bishop Jane, Bishop of Hertford.

Pilgrims can download posters, prayer resources, and the full order of service to help prepare for the day, and churches are being to use these materials to invite their communities and to support pilgrims in prayer as they travel.
