More than 40 young adults from across the Bedfordshire Archdeaconry gathered at Bishop’s Lodge last Thursday for the latest Young Adults Supper Party.
With the warm summer weather providing the perfect setting, this year’s event was held outside in the garden, offering an opportunity for young adults from different church communities to meet, share a meal together and build new connections. Alongside many returning guests, the evening also welcomed a number of first-time attendees.
The event was led by the Bishop of Bedford, the Rt Revd Richard Atkinson, and the Revd Jodie Brown from St Swithun’s Church, Sandy. Through discussion, fellowship and worship, those attending reflected on what it means to be a young adult in the Church today, sharing both their experiences and hopes for the future.
A highlight of the evening was a question-and-answer session, where attendees had the opportunity to “grill” Jodie on faith, church life and discipleship. The gathering also included an act of worship, creating space for prayer and reflection.
The evening has already led to further opportunities for young adults across the Diocese. Several attendees signed up to take part in The Alban Way, and information about the Alban Intern role at St Albans Cathedral was also shared with the group.
Bishop Richard thanked Archdeacon Dave Middlebrook, Rachel Drury and Nadine Scarlett from the Growing Younger and More Diverse Team, for their support and attendance at the event. Archdeacon Dave reflected:
“It was great to be there and to speak with so many young adults and leaders in our churches across the county. It gave me great encouragement about the present and future church to see such wonderful, dedication and faithful young adults.”
Young adults spoke warmly about the impact of the evening:
