Today marks the beginning of the Season of Creation, or Creationtide, the annual period from 1 September to 4 October when Christians around the world are invited to give thanks for God’s creation and reflect on how we care for it.
This year’s theme is Living Water, inspired by the vision in Ezekiel 47:1-12 of water flowing from the temple of God. As the river grows deeper, it brings life wherever it goes, restoring dry land, reviving damaged waters and supporting flourishing ecosystems.

The passage offers a picture of hope, but also a reminder of our shared responsibility. In a world facing environmental challenges, it encourages us to recognise the interconnectedness of people, communities and the natural world, and to consider how we might contribute to its care and renewal.
The symbol for this year’s season is Immersion in Living Water. It reflects a call to transformation, inviting Christians to step more deeply into the life of God and to be inspired by the Holy Spirit in caring for creation. Like the river in Ezekiel’s vision, the invitation is to move beyond awareness and into a deeper appreciation of the ways in which God’s creation sustains and connects us all.
Across our diocese, churches, schools and communities will be marking the season in different ways. Some will incorporate creation themes into worship and prayer, while others will take part in environmental projects, community events or opportunities to enjoy and learn from the natural world.
