The Revd Anne Abok has been ordained priest in a deeply moving and prayerful service, surrounded by her church community, fellow clergy and friends.
Anne was ordained deacon in June 2025 at St Albans Cathedral and warmly welcomed to serve at St Thomas’s Stopsley. In recent months, she has sadly faced a difficult journey with her health. Because of this, and with the necessary permission, Bishop Richard brought forward her ordination to the priesthood.
The service was led by Bishop Richard and was attended by clergy, friends and supporters, including those she studied with at Queen’s College, Birmingham and friends she has known for many years. It was a profound occasion, marked by a strong sense of God’s presence and grace.
The Revd David Alexander, Vicar of St Thomas’s, said:
“It was a very emotional service given the circumstances, but filled with a sense of God’s presence and eternal hope.”
Reflecting on the service, Anne shared:
“I really felt the presence of God during the ordination. So beautiful when he graces our gatherings with his never changing presence.”
Anne’s vocation has been shaped by a lifelong sense of calling. From her early years in Nigeria, through her work combating human trafficking and supporting survivors around the world, to discerning and training for ordained ministry in the Church of England, her faith and commitment have been evident at every stage.
As a diocesan family, we give thanks for Anne’s ministry and for a meaningful and God-ordained service together last weekend.

Sadly, Anne died on 7 July. May she rest in peace. We hold all those close to Anne in our prayers, asking for God’s peace, strength and comfort at this time.
