The Diocese of St Albans has today launched a new racial justice grants scheme to encourage, support and celebrate local initiatives that contribute to a more welcoming, participatory and intercultural Church. Funding is available for projects that help build stronger relationships, increase participation and share stories of what God is already doing across the Diocese.
Two levels of funding are available:
- Small grants of up to £250
- Large grants of up to £1,000.
The Diocese hopes the grants will enable churches and local communities to develop projects that strengthen racial justice, celebrate diversity and foster greater inclusion.
While funding will usually be awarded directly to churches and parishes, applications from initiatives that are not directly linked to a parish or church will also be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Ben Hammond, Racial Justice Officer for the Diocese of St Albans, said:
“The Racial Justice Grant Scheme exists to support churches and communities as they seek God’s kingdom through the work of racial justice.
“We are delighted to launch this new opportunity to fund work that promotes intercultural worship and racial justice across the Diocese of St Albans, enabling local initiatives that build stronger relationships, celebrate the richness of our diversity, and help our churches and communities reflect more fully the justice, reconciliation, and flourishing that God desires for all people.”
Anyone involved in work within their church or parish community that could benefit from the funding is encouraged to apply.
