In 2022 the Diocese of St Albans introduced a new investment policy resulting in additional investment income being received. This investment income has enabled a number of grant schemes to be launched including the Mission Grants below. Together in the Diocese of St Albans, we aspire to ‘Living God’s Love’. The Diocesan missional grants come from a careful stewardship of the resources and assets that God has provided to build God’s Kingdom across our many communities. Church leadership wishing to apply are encouraged in their creativity as we seek to love and serve God and one another, afresh in every generation, uniquely in the places where we have been called.
Links below will take you to detailed information about the criteria for applications and a grant-specific application form for completion. In addition, there is a link in the heading above to the online grant application details form which should be completed alongside any grant application made to ensure that we have the correct details to process your application as efficiently as possible.
There are two grants available for Missional Projects.
Major grants for mission initiatives – possibly, but not limited to, salary contributions, mission focussed building developments etc. Grants are allocated on submission of applications to the Parish Grants Committee and need the support of the Mission and Ministry Team and your Archdeacon. The object of these grants is to support parishes to initiate new missional activity with the specific objectives of evangelism and discipleship and to enable the diocesan priority of growing younger and more diverse; they must relate to a priority within your Mission Action Plan. Grants will generally be to a maximum of 75% of project costs or £20,000 (whichever is lower) and parishes will need to demonstrate that the project cannot proceed without this specific grant support. Grant support for up to three years is possible, but if the project work (including additional employment) is anticipated to continue beyond three years it will be necessary to demonstrate sustainability, including details of how this can be funded after the grant period expires.
There are also funds for small grants of up to £1,000 to enable you to launch, or re-launch missional initiatives. These are administered separately by the Mission and Ministry department and the link to the application form can be found on the following page: Ideas and Small Grants
