More than 200 people gathered on 26 September to mark the 30th anniversary of Luton’s Annual Peace Walk, visiting St Mary’s Church, Guru Nanak Gurdwara and Luton Central Mosque.
Writing in the Faith Matters column for the Luton News, diocesan Faith Adviser David Jonathan (Johny) reflected on how the Peace Walk has become a powerful symbol of the relationships built between Luton’s faith communities over the past three decades.
Participants heard from community and civic leaders throughout the day, including the Bishop of Bedford, the Rt Revd Richard Atkinson, who described the Peace Walk as a “pearl of great price” that continues to strengthen relationships across the town.
Reflecting on the occasion, Johny noted that the Peace Walk demonstrates how trust, friendship and mutual understanding are built over time, helping communities to stand together in promoting peace, respect and inclusion.
The event was organised by the Luton Council of Faiths, alongside local faith groups, community organisations and volunteers who continue to work together to build a peaceful and united future for Luton.
