The Church of England’s General Synod was dissolved on Tuesday 14 July 2026, formally ending the term of its current membership.  Elections to General Synod for the next five years will be held in each diocese starting next month. Further information about these elections can be found on the General Synod elections website.

The electorate for each house is the clergy and lay members respectively of Deanery Synods within the diocese as at 0600 on 14 July 2026. Details of qualifications for candidates for nomination are given in the documents which are downloadable below but broady for Clergy are those qualified as electors and for Laity are those communicant members of the Church of England whose names appear on the electoral roll of a parish within the Diocese. If you are considering standing for nomination please read the detailed qualifications carefully and use the eligibility checker on the General Synod elections website.

If you wish to submit a nomination and are not a member of the electorate please email us from 14 August at (governance@stalbansdiocese.org) and we can arrange for you to be issued with a code to access the nomination portal, or to be sent a paper nomination form.

These elections will be run by Civica and will use the single transferable vote system. They will follow the timetable below:
